In the ROOT graphics there is no separation between documents and views. The drawing of a histogram is controlled by attributes of the histogram and the pad or canvas.
In Go4, a first step to separate the view from the document has been implemented by the Go4 pictures. Still some restrictions remain because of the underlying ROOT.
Now the discussion is to implement a more strict model. A side effect of a separation of views and objects would be that one could later plug in a histogram viewer different than ROOT. Using ROOT still the problem has to be solved how drawing attributes set through ROOT can be catched by the Go4 viewing model.
Ideas and requirements are welcome,
Hans Essel
