To sum this discussion up:

This forum has 3 kinds of subscriptions:
  1. Implicit post subscriptions: you'll be notified about answers to your own posts unless you uncheck Post Notification.
  2. You can subscribe top topics and will be informed about new posts.
  3. You can subscribe to forums and will be notified about newly started topics (but not about new posts to already existing topics).

But there's no category subscription feature.

Two switches may be tweaked system-wide:
  • *Smart notification*: you'll receive only one notification (about replies to your posts) until you read these replies; then you'll be also informed about further replies. This is turned off at the moment.
  • *All Message Forum Notification*: forum subscribers will receive notifications about every new message in the forum, rather then just new topics in the forum. This is also turned off at the moment.

Seems like All Message Forum Notification is what you want. I could just turn it on and see if someone complains. Twisted Evil
Or may I should anounce it first? We'll see.
Regards,
Christopher
