Hello,
as decided yesterday at the chamber construction meeting, we did a test here at Heidelberg with a unusable radiator (glued with profiles already). We applied HV on the aluminized side of the mylar without contacting the carbon fibre. We tried this on the outer and inner side of the radiator up to 3000 V. The result is that nothing happend. Also when touching the radiator with the HV cable when it was already at HV and the raditor grounded previously showed nothing at all. Since in principle I would expect some spark through the mylar it might be that in our case the carbon is touching the aluminized surface with little enough resistance that the potential can be equilibrated sufficiently fast that nothing happens, so it might have been different with the Bukarest chamber. But we do not have many spare radiators, which we would like to potenially destroy to conduct further tests.
cheers,
Clemens
