SciTil meeting with 2 new institutes from India and BARC
creator of the minutes: Ken
20.01.2015 (Thu)
10:00- (CET)
Participants:
Ken Suzuki (SMI)
Lukas Gruber (SMI)
Dominik Steinschaden (SMI)
Herbert Orth (GSI)
Bidyut Roy (BARC)
Harphool Kumawat (BARC)
Arpit Parmar (BARC)
Sonika (BARC)
Kushal Kalita (Gauhati Univ., Assam = GU)
Kamal Dutta (Gauhati Univ., Assam = GU)
Uptal Roy (Visva Bharati Univ. Bolpur near Kolkata = VB)
Sougata Basu (Visva Bharati Univ., Bolpur near Kolkata = VB)
It was more or less a first oral based contact of the group with two Indian universities (Gauhati University in Assam and Visva Bharati University in Bolpur near Kolkata). The meeting was meant to introduce each other and to establish a good communication basis for the next step, namely defining / assigning working packages for those institutes. BARC has been of course since long time in the SciTil group but redefinition of tasks is also foreseen here.
The meeting is based on a conference call function of Skype, that worked fine, except for Visva Bharati University who could hear all of others but their voice and video are not transmitted. Other Indian institutes are going to test it later and help them to fix a problem if any.
Ken listed current major contributing institutes and work packages within SciTil group,
- Detector R&D and optimisation (Erlangen, Vienna)
- Detector simulation (Vienna)
- Radiation hardness test (Vienna)
- Readout (Mainz, Vienna)
- Slow control ("Vienna")
- Software development -pattern recognition, tracking and PID algorithm ("Vienna", VB)
- Physics channel simulation -with emphasis on SciTil (Vienna, GU)
Kamal already mentioned his interest to physics simulation. Choice of which physics channel to look at, is a part of the work package. We have to keep discussion. Herbert helps also as a member of Scrutiny group.
Uptal showed their interest towards software development, asked a contact person within PANDA. (Gianluigi Boca from INFN-Pavia)
Everyone should have a subscription to the panda mailing list, SciTil Forum, and probably SciTil mailing list as well. (Anything else?)
Organizing a monthly meeting is proposed by Herbert and agreed. Detail is still to be discussed. Skype worked in principle fine however it lacks a function to share desktop. Therefore in future we find an alternative solution. A common solution among GSI/FAIR is SeeVogh. Other solution which I have a good experience is Google Hangout.
Besides the regular monthly meeting that we will set up eventually, we'll come together in order to define tasks and work packages that fits best to their interest, their technical background and benefit of the SciTil group. For the moment we communicate based on email.
Indian colleagues is now trying an additional funding for members (esp. Kamal and Sought) to assure regular travels to Europe and participate physically to a regular PANDA collaboration meeting, or other relevant meeting several times a year.
