As decided in today's CBM Software Meeting, the release branch DEC09 will be decoupled from the trunk on Friday, 27 November 2009.

Please have all new features that you would like to be included in the release in SVN by that date.

Feel free to comment should you consider something indispensible for the release but not yet present in SVN.

Thanks to Sergey Belogurov, there are new beampipe geometries in the repository.

The standard pipe geometry (pipe_standard.geo) was slightly corrected in the thickness of the vacuum vessel walls. The up-to-now standard file is kept for reference (pipe_standard_old.geo).

New pipe designs - with larger opening angle - were implemented both in Beryllium (pipe_Be.geo) and Aluminium (pipe_Al.geo). For details, see Sergey's presentation at the CBM Group Meeting, 20 November 2009. Please note that these geometries conflict (overlap) with the current standard STS geometry. Anna Kotynia will soon provide an STS geometry which complies to the new pipes.

Thanks to M. Deveaux, an update of the MVD digitisation was committed to the cbmroot trunk (Revision 7099) and will enter the new release.

In case of problems, see this topic.

As promised, Anna has committed a STS geometry which complies with the new pipe geometries:
geometry/sts_pipe_Al_Be.geo
and the corresponding digitisation parameter file
parameters/sts/sts_pipe_Al_Be.digi.par

The new magnetic fields (see E. Litvinenko's email) have been committed as standard to the cbmroot trunk and will enter release DEC09.

There are two versions of the magnet corresponding to the electron or muon setup. The one for the electron setup includes screens reducing the field in the RICH PMs. For details about the new magnet, see E. Matyushevskiy's presentation at the Collaboration Meeting October 2009 in Split.

The new standards are
field_electron_standard.root
field_muon_standard.root

which are available for download or linking from
/d/cbm06/cbmsim/field/DEC09

The corresponding geometry files in the repository are
geometry/magnet_electron_standard.geo
geometry/magnet_muon_standard.geo

The previous standard (FieldMuonMagnet.root, magnet_standard.geo) is kept for reference, but the geometry is renamed to
geometry/magnet_JUN09.geo

The obsolete magnet version magnet_active.geo was removed from the repository.

Several changes in the sts directory were implemented:
  • The default detector response is now the realistic one (with charge sharing): Revisions 7038, 7040 and 7043
  • Ideal detector response (only one strip fired per MCPoint) is renamed: Revisions 7037 and 7042
  • Compact implementation of CbmStsDigi and introduction of detector addressing scheme: Revision 7055
  • Introduction of single strip-inefficiencies due to dead time: Revision 7083

A detailed description of the STS digitisation and reconstruction can be found on the STS Wiki pages.

As an act of software hygiene, the obsolete directory much_feb07 was removed from the repository. We hope that by today, the current much branch comprises all needed functionality.

CBMROOT release DEC09 is now also installed on the CBM group server for usage on the GSI Linux cluster. It is available for Debian Etch both 32 and 64 bits. To use this installation, simply call
. /misc/cbmsoft/cbmroot/cbm_env.sh DEC09
and run ROOT with your macro.
