I tried like this: (in PndEmcHit.h)

Short_t GetCrystal() const { return (fDetectorID) ;};

can it be that fDetectorID itself is calculated using GetCrystal() ?
(so that I created a recursion this way which then produces
the negative numbers somehow?)
