Happy New Year everyone!

I hope everyone had some nice holidays and got safely into the new year!

Unfortunately, before the last year came to a close I stumbled across some news that may have an impact on some aspects of the PANDA software development, specifically the use of consumer-grade graphics cards from Nvidia. Apparently, Nvidia has changed the licensing agreement for the Geforce and Titan cards so that it is not allowed to use them in data centres anymore. Only the very expensive Tesla cards will be allowed for that henceforth.

Some of you probably already heard about this, but just in case you didn't, here are the corresponding news in
german: https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Nvidia-begrenzt-Deep-Learning-mi t-Geforce-und-Titan-3927851.html
and in
english: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/27/nvidia-limits-data-center-uses-for-gefor ce-titan-gpus.html

This is certainly one of the strongest arguments (but hardly the only one) against using proprietary solutions like CUDA over open and more versatile ones like OpenCL for future developments.
