Just a comment:

I strongly miss the convenience and usability of ascii files to hold calibration parameters.

In the moment there is no easy and quick way to:
- see for which channels calibration data is present in a file
- see how the calib data for a certain detector channel looks like
- debug problems like "why do I get negative times in certain cases?"
- manually modify/copy/extend individual calib params

Could it be an option to use gzipped ascii files in the future?
