Hello!
The design phase for the next generation experiments at GSI has been started. It became immediatly clear that it is nesseccary to care about experiment and accelerator control systems from the early beginning. No currently available control system fullfills all primary requirements which were discussed on a workshop in May 2003, http://www.gsi.de/zukunftsprojekt/experimente/Controls/works hops_e.html.

The functionality of next generation experiment control systems at GSI has to cover the wide range from distributed SCADA down to remote DSP/FPGA programming. It must be very flexible and configurable at runtime. Because of very advanced timing and safety requirements hardware and software cannot be addressed separatly. Due to the distributed development of subsystems in international collaborations and limited resources control systems have to deal with heterogenous environments.

I created a web-page as starting point for documentation for experiment control systems, http://www.gsi.de/zukunftsprojekt/experimente/Controls/index _e.html, and an entry point in the GSI document archive, http://www.gsi.de/onTEAM/tree/index.shtml-> Future Project -> Control Systems.

I am looking forward to a constructive discussion.
