In a recent discussion the question came up what the performance of Ethernet switches is for small packet sizes.

A short look into two market segments showed:
  1. Edge Switches: For the NetGear GSM7224 24 port GE Switch ( see specs) the manufacturer claims 48 Gbps bandwidth und 33.7 Mpps packet rate, thus full wire speed full duplex also with minimal size packets.
  2. Core Switches: For the Force10 TeraScale E-Series E1200 Switch (see specs) the manufacturer claims zero packet loss when run at wire-speed with minimal size packets (see report), giving for example 1.34 Tpbs and 1 Gpps for 672 GE ports run full duplex.
Question: Is there somewhere a published test of recent switches in an environment which resembles our many-to-1 event building szenario ?
