Dear colleagues.

The high energy group at the University of Warwick is taking over
maintenance, future development and support of the EvtGen generator
which is widely used by the experiments. You receive this email as one
of the contact person for your experiment or because we are aware of
your personal interest. As we are starting to work on this project, we
would like to establish contact to users in order to make sure that our
changes to EvtGen actually helps users rather than make their life even
more difficult. To start, here are few points, where you might give us
quick feedback or start to think about them:

- We would like to organize small workshop (half-day to day) where we
could meet face-to-face and listen to you on use of EvtGen in your
experiment, issues you have and wishes to future. Here we could also
discuss strategy for near term updates. Preferred time for this workshop
from our side would be second half of November or beginning of December.
Workshop itself would happen at CERN, which will hopefully make it
relatively easy for many of you to attend. We also plan to have video
connection. Please let us know whether you have some preferred date or
some constraints and whether you would attend in person (preferred) or
only via video so we can discuss exact date in near future.

- Does your experiment has any modifications or implementations of new
features? We are aware that almost each experiment has some
modifications and we would like to get those to new release for benefit
of whole community.

- Is there anything in the code which makes your local usage difficult?
At the moment we are in situation that we can invest some work to
redesign necessary parts of the code to make future work with EvtGen easier.

- Do you have any wish-list of features you would like to have in future?

Best regards,

Michal Kreps for Warwick team.

Dear colleagues.

Given your availability and our will to move on we fixed date for EvtGen
workshop to Tuesday 7. Dec. Workshop will be at CERN and we hope to see
many of you present. We will also have video connection for those of you
who cannot attend in person for any reasons.

Detailed agenda will be set later, but general idea is to have
presentation from us on our plans and presentations by experiments in
morning. In afternoon we plan to have informal discussion about EvtGen
future. In presentations from experiments we would like to learn what
version you use, your use cases and issues you are facing at this moment
followed by wishes towards future. In wishes you can specify both
technical level improvements to make your work with EvtGen easier as
well as wishes for physics enhancements.

While we don't do formal registration, we will be glad if you could
confirm your participation in person or via video by answering this
email. Also let us know if you need any help with getting to CERN and
staying there.

With best regards,

Michal Kreps for Warwick team.

Dear all,

For those interested. On Friday (26th) at 10:00 there will be an EVO meeting to discuss which points we (PANDA) can bring up in the upcoming EvtGen workshop which will take place on the 7th of December at CERN. If you would like to give some input/thoughts here, please join the EVO session on Friday.

Greets,

Johan.

Hi,

Hereby, a few comments that were mentioned during the meeting this morning.

EvtGen wishes for PANDA
--------------------
* Panda would encourage to have EvtGen as an external package, e.g. its maintenance external as VMC, G4, etc .
* EvtGen source available centrally via f.e. subversion, with various branches.
* EvtGen compatible with large range of distributions and compilers
* No dependencies on non-maintained code, such as cernlib (as was shown possible by Bjoern already)
* Code cleaning: getting rid of many compilation warnings
* Easy implementation of users own physics implementation (which is already a feature of existing EvtGen)
* Interfacing to compact and "user-friendly" formats, such as Root (provides f.e. TParticle browsing etc)
* Interfacing to user-preferred random number generators, f.e. for PANDA that would be TRandomX.
* Support for initial higher spin states (beyond virtual 1-- photons) , as possible in p-pbar

What can PANDA deliver?
-------------------
* Testing community for EvtGen developments, e.g. find bugs, suggest features, etc.... Since PANDA is in its development stage, we are a perfect Guinea pig!
* Implementation of physics code for typical PANDA reactions from our user community/interest
* As it looks right now, for the upcoming years, PANDA will hardly have the human resources to contribute to the core developments for EvtGen

Did I miss anything?

Greets,

Johan.
