Pattern Recognition Workshop
https://forum.gsi.de/index.phpindex.php?t=rview&goto=17717&th=4530#msg_17717
following the interest expressed by several persons involved in the Pattern Recognition software development,
I collected the proposals of holding a 2 day workshop on this subject.
So far the following ideas have benne expressed :
1- a workshop in Juelich (date not defined);
2- a workshop in Pavia (end of February);
3- a workshop Frankfurt at FIAS (date not defined);
4- Michael Papenbrock expressed the desire of having the workshop before March 15th;
5- Mohammad Babai expressed the desire of having the workshop just before or after the PANDA meeting;
6- Stefano Spataro expressed the desire of having the workshop in February or April.
Please let me know if I forgot anybody's suggestion.
I would like to launch very soon a Doodle to see what's the opinion of the majority of the collaboration.
Cheers

please find in
the Doodle URL at which you can vote for your favourite time period/location
for a 2-day workshop on the Pattern Recognition software.
Let me remind you that at the end the following were the suggestions I received
(and you can find them in the Doodle) :
1- Juelich, any time;
2- Pavia, 24-25 February;
3- FIAS-Frankfurt, beginning of March;
4- attached to the next Panda meeting (pending Giessen people agreement).
please vote !

I am bit confused about Jülich, any time. Possible dates are 9./10.2. 10./11.2 or 18./19.2. As I have written you in my e-mail.
Cheers,

I won't be able to join before my PhD thesis is finished.

I modified the Doodle of the Pattern Recognition workshop adding and specifying the 3 options possible in Juelich.
Please those of you who have already voted take a moment and go to the same web page (http://doodle.com/r4unxz6hh2zmyh9t )
in order to vote again and eliminate in that way the question marks appearing because the modification
of the options.
Sorry for that ...... cheers !

looking at the Doodle and how the votes are scattered it seems to be difficult to really get the different groups together in one place, which would be very unfortunate. Do you think it might be easier to discuss a possible place and date directly via a SeeVogh meeting?

yes, in case we can discuss it in an EVO, where we could also set the agenda.
Let's wait few days more and see if we reach a better consensus.
In the mean time Wolfgang Kuehn assured me that it is possible to hold the workshop in Giessen attached to the next
Panda meeting, ie Saturday-Sunday either before or after the Panda meeting.
Cheers Gianluigi

the Doodle pool result is that the favourite location/date for the Pattern Recognition Workshop is in FIAS in Frankfurt at the beginning of March.
Unfortunately that decision was far from unanimous and the votes were scattered among all the possibilities.
In the last few days I received emails indicating that the partecipation to such workshop might be low, for various practical reasons
and there is the suggestion to have our discussion on the Monday of the next Panda collaboration meeting instead.
Since I believe it is necessary to settle the matter possibly by this week, what about a (very short) SeeVogh meeting on this Friday Jan 23rd, at 15:00 to make a decision among the 2 options
1- having the meeting at FIAS at the beginning of March;
2- having the meeting on Monday of the Panda week
?
Please let me know

for a workshop we should really aim for getting ALL the groups together in order to make it worth the effort. Therefore, at this point, I think it's a very good idea to have this SeeVogh meeting.
Furthermore, I believe it's an excellent idea to have a meeting at the next collaboration meeting since there we will probably have everone in the same place. So, kind of like the third option presented by Ivan, let's do this anyway...like as a bare minimum

at the EVO meeting today a general consensus was achieved about dropping for the moment the initial idea of having a 2-day Pattern Recognition Workshop soon.
Instead we will try to devote Monday morning and possibly afternoon of the next Panda meeting in Giessen for a discussion
among those persons interested in PR code development.
I will contact Klaus Goetzen to try include that in the meeting agenda and then circulate soon a tentative list of items
we will discuss
