GSI Cluster: global gcc environments?
https://forum.gsi.de/index.phpindex.php?t=rview&goto=13110&th=3472#msg_13110
I'm trying to use the Cluster at GSI for some computations. So far without complete success. My problem is that the batch systems are running the 64bit lenny while my program was compiled by the 32bit lenny machines (that I default to). Then at runtime common shared libraries like libgfortran.so are not found. Is there some nfs path with fixed gcc environments that I can set to use on both systems (so some kind of common ground for both systems)? Or how do I proceed...
Best regards,
Stefan
p.s. Sry in case this topic is not in the correct subforum, but it looked like the best match to me.]]>Stefan Pflueger2012-02-29T15:36:50-00:00Re: GSI Cluster: global gcc environments?

ok so the gsi linux service desk gave me an answer, and apparently the different gcc environments were not available globally (via nfs or others). I was just curious why the default login node (lxi001) runs on 32bit but the cluster has only 64bit libs it can work with. Well anyhow, if I understood correctly these 32bit libs will also be available soon though. Not that one needs them when working on 64bit login nodes right away...

I think this is the wrong forum for this topic, it would be better to submit a ticket to the GSI linux group by sending a mail to "linux-service@gsi.de" or via the ticket system https://it-tts.gsi.de/otrs/customer.pl
In case you went to log in to 64 bit machines you can use the lxlenny64 which will always send you to a 64 bit machine.

thx for your reply. Yes thats exactly what I did, hence my reply to post their answer to my question. That was just in case someone else had similar questions and would hit my thread, it would actually help a bit. Otherwise it would have been just an unanswered post.
The solution of using a 64bit login node was clear to form the get go. It was just weird to me why the wiki pages recommend to use lxi001 if one can't work on the cluster with that node. On other clusters I'm used to have some kind of globally accessible dir (afs, nfs etc.), but I wasnt able to find them here... Anyways I'm working on the HIMSTER in Mainz now, so the GSI cluster is not needed atm.
Sry for the disturbance
